Parents, are you looking for a fun and educational after school program? Are you looking for a hobby for your child that invites creativity, encourages teamwork, and will help to reinforce the lesson taught within their school day? Dungeons and Dragons (DND) is the perfect after school activity to reinforce that which your student is being taught in school. A 2018 Article entitled, How 'Dungeons & Dragons' Primes Students for Interdisciplinary Learning, Including STEM, by Paul Darvasi of Public Radio Station KQED, shows that students who played DND "substantially outperformed their district on a statewide standardized test". All the more impressive is the fact that these stats come from schools that were found to be below the state averages. Additionally, Amberdenise Puckett, of the ALSC, (Association for Library Service to Children), notes in her January, 2022, essay: Introducing Dungeons and Dragons to School-Aged Children, that students who are introduced Role Playing Games (RPGs), are not only scoring higher but, they have a larger vocabulary. Students are more likely to work as a member of a team, be better at, and more capable of taking notes. They also show stronger abilities to communicate their thoughts in more concrete manner. As a secondary benefit she notes the students ability to create deep and lasting friendships As a final benefit noted by Emily Gaudette, in When the Teacher is the Dungeon Master, an article for collegeboard.org, students begin to learn how to empathize with others. A lesson that serves everyone well. Perhaps, the best thing that DND and other RPGs, can give a player is a sense of team and achievement when they work together to overcome what ever challenge befalls them. If this sounds like something your child would enjoy, while passively learning the above stated skills, as well as math, geography, interpersonal skills and any number of skills that would fill a page on their own, then DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS CLUB is for you and your child!
